Climate

MeteoGroup is at the forefront of applied climate research; studying the impact globally and locally. We provide detailed climate forecasts for a specific location for weather variables out to the end of this century. Our work is based on the most up to date, internationally recognized, climate change research. From this starting point we tailor the information to the needs of specific industry sectors and clients.

Global warming is region and season specific: some places will become warmer quicker than others, sometimes resulting in more rain whilst other regions will become drier.  Moreover, high wind events may increase, or even decrease in frequency and force. Winters may become wetter, while summers become drier, keeping annual rainfall change to a minimum.

MeteoGroup has developed their own models to forecast local climate change. With the aid of international research, we add our own statistical models to produce site-specific forecasts. Some examples of the research projects recently undertaken are listed below:

  • The likely maximum wet-bulb temperature in the next 25 years at an international airport.
  • The return period of extreme rainfall events within very short time frames, from 10 to 60 minutes, at different locations for the next 100 years.
  • Forecasting the number of de-icing actions needed in the future.
  • The future change in the number of hours needed for heating train track switches.
