Career
MeteoGroup’s MRD team is dedicated to applied scientific research. We do research and we develop and implement meteorological applications to serve our clients. Research could mean the development of a new method, or verification, or consultancy work for a customer with a specific question. We do projects with various lengths. Some may take as little as 10 days, some may take 3 months. We rarely have projects longer than 6 months.
The R&D team consists of people with an academic education. Most of us have a degree in meteorology, but we also hire people with degrees in physics or mathematics. Young people straight from university will usually start as a junior meteorological researcher working under the supervision of more experienced staff. After 2 years you will, in general, become a (medior) meteorological researcher. When you will have developed sufficient qualities and expertise you may become a senior meteorological researcher. A researcher may also be asked to coordinate projects and he/she then assumes the role of project leader. Some in our group prefer the project coordination, others the research, and most of us prefer the mix (but the mix is not required). We prefer the project leaders to have a meteorological background, such that they can lead the projects based on experience.
MeteoGroup’s MRD Department has grown significantly over recent years as the business expands and our focus on quality intensifies. We anticipate the team will continue to grow.
Currently we are 12. At the moment there is an open position as meteorological researcher.
